The Manipur government has declared a half-day holiday on November 29 and 30 in honour of the state’s ongoing Sangai Festival 2022.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh made the announcement on social media on Sunday evening.

“Pleased to declare that the state will observe a half-day holiday on November 29th and 30th in connection with the Manipur Sangai Festival 2022,” posted CM Singh on Facebook.

On November 21, the 11th edition of the Sangai Festival 2022, a 10-day annual cultural-cum-tourism festival, began. This year, unlike previous years, the festival has been organised in 13 different venues across the state under the theme “festival of oneness” to showcase the best of the state’s cultures and traditions. This is one of the festival’s largest editions since its inception in 2010.

Sangai is named after a rare species of brow-antlered deer known locally as Sangai, which can only be found in Keibul Lamjao, the world’s only floating national park.

Earlier in the day, N Biren Singh, the chief minister, dedicated the Sangai Ethnic Park. Ministers, MLAs, board and corporation chairmen, and Chief Secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar, among others, attended the inauguration.
