During the recently concluded Nagaland elections, the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and its ally, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), won a total of 37 seats in the 60-member Assembly, 25 with the NDPP and 12 with the BJP. Meanwhile, the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), which ran in 15 assembly constituencies, opened their account by winning two seats. The Naga Peoples Front won two seats as well, while the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) won seven seats in the northern state. One seat was won by the Janata Dal (United).

Rio will lead an all-party government in the state, with no opposition, after all parties signed letters of support for the Rio-led alliance.

Apart from that, Nagaland made history when it elected its first female legislators in its 60-year history. The ruling NDPP’s two female lawmakers, Hekhani Jakhalu and Salhoutuonuo Kruse, defeated the sitting MLAs in Western Angami and Dimapur-III.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flew to the northeast earlier in the day for a two-day visit to witness the inauguration of new governments in Nagaland, Tripura, and Meghalaya.
