World AIDS Day 2022: Theme, history, significance and more

Disparities that fuel the AIDS pandemic can be addressed; they are not unavoidable. On this World AIDS Day, December 1, UNAIDS is calling on everyone to confront the injustices that are impeding the fight to end AIDS.

The theme “Equalize” is a rallying cry. It is a rallying cry for all of us to pursue the tried-and-true methods needed to close gaps and aid in the eradication of AIDS. These are as follows:

Increase the availability, quality, and acceptability of HIV treatment, testing, and prevention services to ensure that everyone is well served.

World AIDS Day 2022: History

The concept of World AIDS Day was first proposed in 1987. This day is observed to encourage local and state governments, international organizations, and private citizens to communicate about AIDS and HIV. It was devised by James W. Bunn and Thomas Netter, two public information officers at the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland. Since 1996, UNAIDS (the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS) has coordinated and promoted it. The following day, on November 30, 2017, President Donald Trump declared December 1 as World Aids Day.

World AIDS Day 2022: Theme

This year’s World AIDS Day theme is “Equalize.” It implies that everyone should try to put an end to the injustices that, according to UNAIDS, are impeding the effort to eradicate AIDS. This year’s topic is the most recent in a long line of concerns.
