Udit Narayan was born in Bihar on December 1, 1955, to a Maithili Brahmin family of a Nepali father and a Bihari mother. Narayan had idols as a child, including Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar, Mohammad Rafi, and Asha Bhosle, whom he would listen to on the radio. Udit Narayan’s mother, Bhuvneshwari Devi, was a folk singer who encouraged her son’s interest in music.

But there was a time when he worked for 100 rupees in a Kathmandu radio station. Udit used to be very upset when he was away from home. He went even though his father refused.

He had a difficult journey before arriving in Mumbai. A hundred rupees would not suffice. As a result, he used to sing songs in the hotel and study at night. He arrived in Mumbai after receiving a musical scholarship.
