Punjab: Radical Sikh preacher and ‘Waris Punjab De’ founder Amritpal Singh drew a comparison between the idea of a ‘Hindu Rashtra’ and that of ‘Khalistan’. In light of the Ajnala violence in Punjab, the preacher stated that the incident was “not violent enough”. Comparing the two ideologies, he said while Hindu Rashtra is “exclusive”, Khalistan is “pure”.

“If you say ‘Khalistan Zindabad’ is bad, you are attempting to challenge the Supreme Court; however, when someone says ‘Hindu Rashtra Zindabad,’ what exactly is ‘Hindu Rashtra’? Where has it been established? It does not make people feel threatened. The concept of Hindu Rashtra is diametrically opposed to the concept of Khalistan. It excludes any other identities; you are either a Hindu or dead. They don’t give you alternatives. However, the idea of Khalistan is so pure that it is the raj of Khalistan,” Amritpal told.

Who is Amritpal Singh and what is happening in Punjab?

Amritpal Singh, the leader of the Khalistani group Waris Punjab De, spewed new venom and threatened bloodshed on Saturday. Claiming that the Ajnala incident was not violent, Amritpal Singh has said that “the real violence is yet to be seen”.

“You are counting sloganeering and hoisting flags (Khalistani) as violence… you have not seen the real violence until now… the real violence is yet to come,” Amritpal Singh told the media in Ajnala.

“What is Indian culture like? What is Indian clothing like, and what is Indian food like? There is no Indian cuisine. The story that we are Indians is a lie. Why should we call ourselves Indians? The nationalism rope is very thin…it can snap at any time “”What India did in Balochistan, Pakistan will do in Kashmir,” Amritpal Singh said.

Amritpal Singh also stated that he does not consider himself an Indian simply because he has an Indian passport. “Amit Shah had said that he won’t let the Khalistan movement rise, to which my response was that he will have to face the same consequences as Indira Gandhi,” Singh said, referring to his earlier remark against Union Home Minister Amit Shah. If Amit Shah says the same thing about ‘Hindu Rashtra,’ I’ll see if he keeps his job as Home Minister.”

Amritpal Singh, a member of the heavily armed Nihang Sikh army, has returned from Dubai. He was recently appointed as the executive director of ‘Waris Punjab De,’ an organisation founded by Deep Sidhu, an actor and activist who died in a car accident in February last year. Deep Sidhu stressed during the organization’s launch that ‘Waris Punjab De’ was formed as a voice against the Centre for the rights of people in Punjab.
