Former Olympian and Indian hockey star Sandeep Singh, who is now Haryana’s Sports Minister, has been accused of rape. On Saturday, Chandigarh Police announced that they are investigating the charges leveled against the former athlete turned politician.

Meanwhile, Singh has denied the allegations, referring to them as “politically motivated” by the former national hockey team captain. Allegations of sexual harassment were made by a junior coach in the state sports department who also competed in the 2016 Rio Olympics.

The police have stated that all aspects will be investigated. The junior coach made the allegations on Thursday and filed a police report on Friday.

Haryana minister and BJP leader Singh also stated that he would file a defamation suit against the coach. A complaint had been received from the minister, according to an order issued by Haryana Director General of Police P K Agrawal. A committee has been formed to investigate the situation. Mamta Singh, Additional Director General of Police, Rohtak Range, is in charge of the committee. The order also said that the “allegations in this regard are also circulating on social and electronic media”.

According to the junior coach, the minister first saw her at a gym and then connected with her on Instagram. “He messaged me on Instagram and said my national games certificate is pending and that we should meet,” she was quoted as saying.

“Unfortunately, my certificate was misplaced by my federation, and I have been pursuing it with the appropriate authorities,” she added.

She agreed to meet the minister at his residence-cum-camp office with other documents in her possession, according to the junior coach. She claimed that when she went there, the minister sexually assaulted her.

“He then led me to a side cabin at his house… He set my papers on the side table and rested his hand on my foot. He said he liked me the first time he saw me… “He said if you keep me happy, I’ll keep you happy,” she claimed.

“I took his hand away…

He ripped my T-shirt. “I was crying and raising an alarm for help, and despite the fact that all of his staff was present, no one helped me,” the woman claimed.

“I want an independent investigation. We will also have it investigated because my reputation has been harmed “While denying the charge, the minister stated.
