MCD Election Result 2022: Sultanpur’s Bobi Kinnar, or Bobi darling as affectionately known, will be the first transgender member of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi after winning Sultanpuri A in the hard-fought election on Wednesday. This was the first time the AAP fielded a transgender candidate in the election, and with the victory, the MCD will now have a transgender member for the first time.

Bobi was not running in the MCD election for the first time. Bobi ran as an independent candidate in 2017.

Bobi, a long-time social worker who has worked to educate children, women, and people with disabilities, ran a vigorous door-to-door campaign ahead of the recent election.

Bobi was involved with the Aam Aadmi Party even before its formation, during the Anna Hazare Movement in 2011. She attributes her selection as the party’s candidate to her extensive background in social work.

During her campaign, Bobi promised to beautify her district and rid the civic body of corruption.

The battle for control of the Delhi Municipal Corporation has been a neck-and-neck race between the AAP and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has been in power for the past 15 years.

Bobi is well-known in Sultanpuri for her/their extensive social work. Bobi is the president of the Hindu Yuva Samaj Ekta Awam Anti-Terrorism Committee’s Delhi unit.

Sultanpuri is where the 38-year-old was born and raised. Bobi opened up about the ostracism she/they faced because of their gender identity in an interview with the Indian Express.

Bobi was adopted by the transgender community when she was 14-15 years old, and she later became a wedding dancer. Her/their path to politics then took them through social work.
