Mallikarjun Kharge officially takes charge as Congress president and handed over the certificate of election to the top post at AICC headquarters. Mallikarjun Kharge becomes the Indian National Congress’s first non-Gandhi president in nearly two and a half decades on Wednesday. Kharge won the presidency by a huge margin over party MP Shashi Tharoor in the presidential election last week. He took over as Congress President from senior leader Sonia Gandhi.

Former party president Sonia Gandhi, MP Rahul Gandhi and party’s General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were present at the program. All Congress Working Committee (CWC) members, MPs, Pradesh Congress Committee presidents, CLP leaders, former CMs, former State presidents, and other AICC office bearers were present at the programme as Mallikarjun Kharge took over as Congress President today, according to news agency ANI. The invitation was sent to all leaders by Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal.

All Congress Working Committee (CWC) members, MPs, Pradesh Congress Committee presidents, CLP leaders, former CMs, former State presidents, and other AICC office bearers were present at the program as Mallikarjun Kharge took over as Congress President today, according to news agency ANI. The invitation was sent to all leaders by Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal.

In his first address as Congress president, Kharge thanked outgoing party leader Sonia Gandhi on behalf of all party members. He claimed she “sacrificed many years of her life for the grand old party.”
