Maharashtra NCP Crisis: Ajit Pawar, the head of the Nationalist Congress Party, claimed on Tuesday that there is ‘no reality’ to speculations that he is set to join the Bharatiya Janata Party. “I work for NCP… Nobody is going anywhere (and) no MLAs have signed anything. “These are all speculative claims,” Maharashtra’s ex-deputy chief minister told reporters. “I have not obtained any MLAs’ signatures.” All rumors must be put to rest.”

Ajit Pawar also criticized the media for publishing such reports, saying they had caused confusion in the NCP, which was in power in Maharashtra as the Maha Vikas Aghadi government until the BJP-backed rebellion led by Sena faction leader Eknath Shinde, who then became CM.

In an overnight coup in 2019, Ajit Pawar and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis formed a short-lived government in the state.

Devendra Fadnavis was sworn in as Chief Minister and Ajit Pawar as Deputy Chief Minister in one of the most extraordinary political occurrences in Maharashtra politics of 2019. As had resigned from the government, the government lasted three days.

“I want to tell them (NCP employees)… “Don’t worry, the NCP was founded by Sharad Pawar, and there have been times when we were in power or in opposition,” Ajit Pawar remarked.

Ajit Pawar’s strong denial of (a contentious) transfer to the BJP comes just hours after his uncle and NCP president Sharad Pawar refuted similar speculation and stated that no meeting of the party’s MLAs had been scheduled.

On Monday, Ajit Pawar dismissed as false media reports that he had called a meeting of NCP legislators; a report by a few media houses stated that the nephew had gathered the support of 40 of the party’s 53 MLAs to break away from the Maha Vikas Aghadi and join hands with the BJP to strengthen the state government.
