According to the latest developments, Gunathilaka was arrested after a 29-year-old woman was sexually assaulted at a Rose Bay residence.

“The woman met with the man after communicating with him for several days through an online dating app; it is alleged he then sexually assaulted her on the evening of Wednesday, November 2, 2022.” A crime scene examination was conducted yesterday at an address in Rose Bay as part of ongoing investigations, according to a New South Wales police statement.

Gunathilaka did not play in Sri Lanka’s World Cup campaign during the Super 12 stage after being ruled out of the tournament in the first round. Due to a hamstring injury, the Sri Lanka batter missed the final round of the T20 World Cup. Despite being replaced in the World Cup squad, Gunathilaka remained with the team in Australia.
