Israeli filmmaker Nadav Lapid was “shocked” to see The Kashmir Files in the competition section of such a prestigious film festival, calling it a “propaganda, vulgar film.” The Jury head of the IFFI (International Film Festival of India) 2022, Israeli filmmaker Nadav Lapid, has called director Vivek Agnihotri’s film ‘The Kashmir Files’ a “propaganda, vulgar film,” adding that he was “shocked” to see the film in the competition section of such a prestigious film festival.

“We are all disturbed. It appeared to us to be a ‘propaganda, vulgar film,’ unsuitable for an artistic competitive section of such a prestigious competition. I am completely comfortable sharing these feelings openly on stage because the festival’s spirit truly accepts critical discussion, which is essential for art and life “Nadav Lapid stated on Day 2 of the event, which is taking place in Goa’s Panaji.

Last week, The Kashmir Files was also screened at the festival. Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri directs Kashmir Files. The film, which was released in theatres on March 11, is about the killings and exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the valley in 1990. While the film was a success in India, many people criticized it for its alleged propagandist tone.

Singapore even outlawed the film, deeming it “beyond” the city-film state’s classification guidelines. According to media reports, Singaporean authorities refused to classify the Hindi-language film due to “its provocative and one-sided portrayal of Muslims and depictions of Hindus being persecuted in the ongoing conflict in Kashmir.”

However, Israel’s Consul General in Midwest India, Kobbi Shoshani, believes differently than Lapid. “I went to see the Kashmir film and met the cast. My viewpoint differs from that of Nadav Lapid. After his speech, I expressed my thoughts to Nadav “He tweeted about it.

Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, and Pallavi Joshi star in the lead roles in the Vivek Agnihotri-directed film. In India, the ruling party praised the film, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah both praising the performances and the content. The film has also been declared tax-free in the majority of BJP-ruled states.
