Reliance Jio and Warner Bros Biggest Deal: The Indian conglomerate Reliance has apparently reached an agreement with Warner Bros Discovery Inc. for its streaming service JioCinema. The move is considered Reliance’s significant drive to get popular Hollywood content to the platform. The development was confirmed by two persons with firsthand knowledge of the situation regarding Reliance Jio and Warner Bros Biggest Deal.

According to a joint statement from the companies, the deal between Reliance’s Viacom18 would see Warner Bros. and its HBO content become available on Reliance’s JioCinema app, including popular films and shows such as Succession, Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings, and the Harry Potter series.

Reuters first reported the acquisition on Thursday, citing persons with direct knowledge of the transaction.

The sources did not reveal the deal’s financials, but the statement defined the content relationship as a “new multi-year agreement” that will begin next month.

According to Reuters, Reliance’s Viacom18 has agreed into a contract with Warner Bros that would bring its HBO content to the JioCinema app. Popular shows such as Succession, Game of Thrones, and the forthcoming Harry Potter series will be available. Neither party has disclosed the financial specifics of the agreement.

Previously, WBD material was available on the Disney-owned Star TV platform. However, the contract with Star expired at the end of March. WBD sources confirm that, with the exception of a few programs licensed to third parties, HBO material has been unavailable on Indian television since the beginning of the month.

The new agreement is yet another significant triumph for Mukesh Ambani, one of India’s wealthiest and most politically prominent billionaires. His Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) is the parent company of Viacom18 and JioCinema, as well as India’s top cellular phone and broadband internet providers.
