Nagaland Fashion Designer’s ‘Tassel Dress’ exhibited at the prestigious Humboldt Forum, Germany

Must Read

If you visit any of the eight states that make up India’s North East, you will be enchanted by the youth’s fashion sense. The influence of Western culture, and more recently Korean culture, as well as the tribal sense of color combination, distinguishes the people of the region from the rest of the country.

So it’s no surprise that designers from the North East are putting India and the region on the map – and, more importantly, sustaining the ethnic narrative by fusing the modern and the tribal.

The various tribes and communities have their own ethnic attires, textiles, and styles, which we are extremely protective of and proud of. It is our historical evolution that distinguishes us!

Recently, Nagaland Fashion Designer Imchatsung Imchen’s art-to-wear ‘Tassel Dress’ was exhibited at the prestigious Humboldt Forum, in Berlin, Germany.

Taking to twitter the designer posted, “Honoured to have my art-to-wear ‘Tassel Dress’ exhibited at the prestigious Humboldt Forum, Berlin, Germany. If you are in Berlin, do visit the ‘Naga Land- Voices from Northeast India’ exhibition under the Asia section, 3rd Floor, Humboldt Forum. ”

‘How many stories do you read on my face?’ by Imchatsung Imchen was shown at Lakmé Fashion Week in 2008 and 2009. He was a designer who was interested in traditional textiles and his Naga heritage while also being well-versed in mainstream fashion design sensibilities. Imchen describes the 2009 collection, which featured handwoven textiles and accessories from Nagaland, as “an attempt to unravel an untold tale.”
