Lavita drama controversy: The debate over the drama ‘Lavita’ of Avahan Theatre produced by veteran actress Prastuti Parashar continues. The play ‘Lovita,’ which was screened on the theatre stage this year, elicited strong reactions in various parts of the state. The Gananatya Sangha of India has already threatened to prevent the play from being staged in Dibrugarh. In the midst of the controversy, two performances of the play ‘Lavita’ (Lavita Drama Staged in Nalbari) were held on Tuesday at the Abahan Theatre in Pakoa, Nalbari. Following the performance, Abhijit Bhattacharya responded to Gananatya Sangha’s threat that the play that the convener committee allows to be staged would be completed.

In this case, he threw the decision ball to the Abahan authorities. He also reacted angrily to Asom Sahitya Sabha president Kuladhar Saikia’s call for no one to be involved in the creation of Jyoti Prasad Agarwala.

In response, playwright Bhattacharya stated that many people have attempted to recreate Jyotiprasad Agarwala’s creation over the years. Abhijit Bhattacharya reiterated in many amateur groups and mobile theatres have recreated Jyotiprasad’s creations and that composing play does not imply putting your hand into creation. Abhijit Bhattacharya also claimed that journalists started the debate about him. Meanwhile, in response to a reporter’s question about whether Lovita’s name could be “New Lovita,” he stated that several names have been sent to the public for selection.

The theatre’s producer and actress Prastuti Parashar also told reporters that a decision on the new name of ‘Lovita’ will be made soon. In response to the threat from the Gananatya sangha, Prastuti Parashar stated that the plays will be performed as it is allowed by the convener’s committee. Meanwhile, in response to the slogan controversy, the actress stated that both ‘Vande Mataram’ and ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ mean the same thing.

It should be noted that Lovita (Jyoti Prasad Agarwala’s creation ‘Lavita’ drama) was Jyoti Prasad Agarwala’s fourth play. In 1948, the play was first published. In the play, there is no hero or heroine. While creating the characters in the play, the playwright considers Lovita to be a revolutionary. Gandhi’s nonviolent policy has been criticized from time to time.
