The candidates are selected through a rigorous selection process and their performances are reviewed suitably through a national convention.
The majority of the students chosen for the PMRF fellowship this year are conducting research in interdisciplinary and cutting-edge areas at various departments and centres, including Design, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Electrical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, and the Centres for Nanotechnology, Rural Technology, Energy, and Environment.
Following selection, each fellow will be assigned deliverables to meet each year. The assigned guide will decide on the deliverables. The deliverables will be designed with the research topic chosen by the fellows in mind, and they will most likely be reviewed annually for progress toward their research objectives.
The Prime Minister’s Research Fellows (PMRF) scheme was introduced in the 2018-2019 Budget and is intended to improve research quality while also providing unparalleled research opportunities in the country’s various higher educational institutions.
The scheme is managed by the Ministry of Education and aims to propel and promote the growth of engineers and scientists through consistent annual reviews and weightage based on publication in reputable journals and conferences.
The Government of India has changed the Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship (PMRF) scheme to allow for lateral entry and to lower the minimum score required for eligibility. The minimum score in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) has been reduced from 750 to 650 under the revised scheme.
