On Sunday, Lovlina Borgohain added a fourth gold medal to India’s tally at the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championship in New Delhi. The Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist put on a strong performance in the 70-75kg finals, defeating Australia’s Caitlin Anne Parker 5-2 split decision after a review.

After winning a bronze medal in Tokyo, Lovlina struggled in 2022, failing to make an impression at both the World Championships and the Commonwealth Games. She did, however, put on a strong performance at the nationals and also won a gold medal at the Asian Boxing Championship in November of last year.

Nikhat Zareen and Lovlina Borgohain led India to victory in the Women’s World Boxing Championships in New Delhi on Sunday. While Nikhat Zareen won gold in the 50kg category, Lovlina Borgohain took gold in the 75kg category. Nikhat Zareen defeated Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Tam in the 50kg final with a 5-0 victory.

Nitu Ghanghas and Saweety Boora made history on Saturday by becoming world champions in their respective weight categories in the ongoing Women’s World Boxing Championships in the national capital.

Nitu and Saweety’s victories made them India’s sixth and seventh boxers (male or female) to win world championship gold.
