Rahul Chetry, the prime accused of the Dibrugarh University ragging incident has surrendered before police at Lekhapani police station in Tinsukia district. 7 persons have so far been arrested in the Dibrugarh University ragging incident.

Since the ragging event came to light, Chetry has been evading authorities. Chetry is allegedly implicated in the horrifying racial harassment of Dibrugarh University’s freshmen. Six days after the sad occurrence when one student, Anand Sharma, suffered serious injuries while attempting to avoid ragging at the university dormitory came to light, Chetry persisted in avoiding police capture.

It is important to note that on December 4 morning, another suspect who is allegedly connected to the Dibrugarh University ragging case turned himself into the police. Kalyan Dutta has been named as the suspect.

Rahul Chetry, the main accused in the Dibrugarh University ragging incident, has been expelled with immediate effect from J.B. Law College in Guwahati.

The decision was made at the law college’s governing body meeting on Saturday.

According to the college’s notice, “Rahul Chetry went to the Dibrugarh University and is alleged to be involved in the heinous activities of ragging junior students, causing both physical and mental grievous hurt.” The administration has already declared him an absconder, and he has yet to issue any paper or other type of statement defending himself.”

Notably, Anand Sharma, a first-semester university student, jumped from the third floor of a hostel building to avoid ragging. Rahul Chetry has been missing since the incident occurred.

On the other hand, 22 university students have been expelled for their alleged involvement in the case.

The Committee was formed on Wednesday to look into the possibility of lapses/deficiencies in dealing with ragging issues on the University campus.

Police in Dibrugarh has arrested five people in connection with the Dibrugarh University ragging incident.

Anand Sharma, the victim of the university ragging incident, underwent critical spinal surgery at a private hospital in Dibrugarh.
