AMC Ragging: Two Assam Medical College Students Expelled for Ragging

AMC Ragging: Based on the Anti-Ragging Committee’s report, two postgraduate students from the department of Orthopedics at Assam Medical College (AMC), Dibrugarh, Dr. Sayan Mukherjee, and Dr. Saket Saraf, were suspended from classes and academic privileges for six months.

“On the basis of the Anti-Ragging Committee’s report, the following Postgraduate students of the department of Orthopedics, Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh were found guilty of harassing junior Postgraduate students both physically and mentally, which is a gross misconduct,” the notice stated.

As a result, the following disciplinary actions are imposed on the guilty PG students of the Department of Orthopaedics on the recommendation of the Anti-Ragging Committee.”

The two students suspended were:

  1. Dr. Sayan Mukherjee (2021-22)
  2. Dr. Saket Saraf (2021-22)

The following disciplinary actions were taken against the students:

Six-month suspension from class attendance and academic privileges

Immediate suspension/expulsion from the hostel.

On the other hand, Assam’s Dibrugarh University has rusticated up to 18 students for their alleged involvement in the Anand Sarma ragging case.

Anand Sarma, a first-semester MCom student at Dibrugarh University in Assam, jumped from the second floor of the varsity’s hostel building to avoid ragging.

Some of the students at Dibrugarh University’s hostel in Assam allegedly tortured Anand Sarma, both physically and mentally.

Rahul Chetry (ex-student), Dibyajyoti Gogoi (3rd Semester, Dept of Applied Geology), Subrajyoti Baruah (3rd Sem, Dept of Pol Sc), Niranjan Thakur (3rd Sem, Centre for Physical Education), Kalyan Dutta (3rd Sem, Dept of History), and several others from the PNGB hostel of Dibrugarh University in Assam are among those named in the

In connection with the case, a case was registered at the Dibrugarh police station in Assam under sections 120B/341/395/307/143 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

It is also learned that Anand Sarma had complained to the University administration about his sufferings as a result of ragging by some students.
