Guwahati: The MV Ganga Vilas, the world’s longest river cruise, arrived in Guwahati on Monday.

The river cruise, which included 26 Swiss and two German tourists, stopped at the city’s Pandu Port.

It should be mentioned that the anchoring of the MV Ganga Vilas at Pandu Ports is a watershed moment for the Assam tourism industry, which is projected to increase the state’s tourism and economy.

Last Friday, the MV Ganga Vilas landed at ZERO point on the Indo-Bangladesh border, after which it travelled 32 kilometres to Dhubri port. The cruise ship was accompanied by the survey vessel SL Subansiri from the Zero point to Pandu port.

Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and Ayush, described the arrival of the Ganga Vilas cruise ship at Dhubri, Assam, India, as a “watershed moment” in inland waterways transit towards the transformation of Northeast India.

The historic cruise took sail from Varanasi on January 13, 2023, and after passing through the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal, as well as Bangladesh, arrived in Dhubri, Assam, on the 39th day of the voyage. The Ganga Vilas’ Varanasi to Bogibeel voyage, dubbed the world’s longest river cruise, is set to end on March 1, 2023, when it anchors in Bogibeel, Dibrugarh, bringing the 51-day cruise to a finale.
