Gauhati University Ragging: At a moment when the horrendous ragging incident at Dibrugarh University has shaken the entire state, another dehumanizing ragging incident has emerged.

This time, the incident occurred at the prestigious Gauhati University. Hazrat Ali of Goalpara district was subjected to psychological torture in the name of ragging while studying at Gauhati University.

The victim, Hazrat Ali, told the media that he planned to enrol in a post-graduate Arabic course at Gauhati University in 2020.

He moved to Dr. Banikanta Kakati’s two-story hostel when classes began in 2021. During this time, the student was subjected to inhuman physical and mental torture at the hands of senior and super senior university residents.

He claims that he was harassed by fellow residents even after he became a senior. “The hostel seniors abused me, and I was a victim of daily ragging,” he said.

According to him, one of his ears is now twisted as a result of a severe beating by a senior student named Kaushik Debnath.

He stated that he has been receiving treatment at Gauhati Medical College Hospital for the past nine months.

Hazrat Ali claimed that four resident students, Sanjay Sarkar, Tusharjyoti Baruah, Pavitra Badhai, and Champak Baishya, forced their way into his room, tortured him, and threatened to kill him. He claims that the hospital’s watchmen saved him.

Hazrat Ali claims that despite informing university authorities and the general secretary of the University Students’ Unity Committee on multiple occasions, he has yet to receive justice.

Although he could not muster the courage to speak out earlier, he recently did so after learning that the government had taken strong action in response to the recent ragging incident at Dibrugarh University.
