Dibrugarh University ragging case: Authority suspends 3 hostel wardens

The authority of Dibrugarh University has suspended three wardens of the varsity’s hostel i.e. Padmanath Gohain Baruah Hostel, days after a first-semester postgraduate student allegedly jumped off his hostel building after becoming tired of being ragged.

“Three wardens have been suspended,” Dr. Jiten Hazarika, Vice Chancellor of Dibrugarh University, told ANI. We will appoint three new wardens, and the process is already underway.”

The in-charges of Mofizuddin Ahmed Hazarika Hostel and Miles Bronson Hostel were also fired as a result of the incident.

Meanwhile, new appointments have been made to fill the vacancies left by the dismissals.

On Wednesday, four students were expelled from Dibrugarh University in Assam following an unfortunate incident of ragging that resulted in a junior-year student jumping off the second floor of his hostel.

According to reports, the four students have been denied admission to any university in India.

Galav Deka, Kamaleshwar Chutia, Mousam Phukan, and Chao Puseng Kham Baruah were the four students expelled today.

They were expelled from the university for three years for their role in the unfortunate incident.

The university administration has taken stringent measures in the aftermath of the heinous ragging incident. To prevent such incidents in the future, an Anti-Ragging Vigilance Cell has been formed.

Earlier in the day, police announced the arrest of another suspect in the case.

According to police, the arrested suspect has been identified as Subhrojyoti Baruah, a third-semester political science student. According to officials, they have also detained another student identified as Newar for questioning.

On November 27, Anand Sharma, an M Com student at the state-run Dibrugarh University, allegedly jumped from the second floor of his PNGB hostel building. Sharma is said to have taken the drastic step because he was tired of being dragged by his superiors. Sharma was rushed to a private hospital and is said to be in critical condition.

Based on a complaint filed by Sharma’s parents, Dibrugarh Police opened an investigation against five people who were allegedly involved in the incident.
