Anand Sarma, a first-semester MCom student at Dibrugarh University in Assam, jumped from the second floor of the varsity’s hostel building to avoid ragging.

Some of the students at Dibrugarh University’s hostel in Assam allegedly tortured Anand Sarma, both physically and mentally.

Rahul Chetry (ex-student), Dibyajyoti Gogoi (3rd Semester, Dept of Applied Geology), Subrajyoti Baruah (3rd Sem, Dept of Pol Sc), Niranjan Thakur (3rd Sem, Centre for Physical Education), Kalyan Dutta (3rd Sem, Dept of History), and several others from the PNGB hostel of Dibrugarh University in Assam are among those named in the

In connection with the case, a case was registered at the Dibrugarh police station in Assam under sections 120B/341/395/307/143 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

It is also learned that Anand Sarma had complained to the University administration about his sufferings as a result of ragging by some students.

A Satra Mukti Sangram Samiti leader, another accused Rahul Chetry, is still absconding. Meanwhile, a Magisterial Inquiry into the Alleged Case of Ragging has been ordered.
ADC went to see the victim in the hospital. The victim’s condition is stable at the moment.

The other 18 accused, on the other hand, have been identified and will be expelled from the university.

On Sunday, November 27, a Dibrugarh University student named Anand Sharma jumped from the second floor of the hostel where he was staying to protect himself from alleged ragging by his seniors. The student was critically injured and was taken to a private hospital where he was admitted to the intensive care unit. The victim’s condition is still critical as of now. Police have detained three students in connection with the ragging incident.

After a shocking ragging incident at Dibrugarh University in which a student jumped from the hostel building, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has appealed to students to oppose ragging.

Assam Chief Minister tweeted on the microblogging site Twitter, “A Dibrugarh University student has been injured in an alleged case of ragging. A close eye was kept on things, and follow-up action was planned with the district administrator. Efforts are being made to apprehend the accused, and the victim is receiving medical treatment “.
