Bihu: PM Modi to inaugurate AIIMS Guwahati, launch projects during Assam visit on April 14

Assam: Prime Minister Narendra Modi to lay the foundation stone, inaugurate, and dedicate projects worth around Rs. 14,300 crores to the nation. He will dedicate AIIMS Guwahati and three other medical colleges in Assam to the country.

On April 14, 2023, Prime Minister Modi will pay a visit to Assam. PM would arrive to AIIMS Guwahati at 12 p.m. to view the newly constructed campus. Following that, he will dedicate AIIMS Guwahati and three other medical institutes to the nation during a public ceremony. He will also lay the groundwork for the Assam Advanced Health Care Innovation Institute (AAHII) and begin the ‘Aapke Dwar Ayushman’ campaign, which would include the distribution of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) cards to eligible beneficiaries.


The Prime Minister will visit the Guwahati High Court’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati at around 2:15 p.m.

At 5 p.m., the Prime Minister will arrive at Guwahati’s Sarusajai Stadium to preside over a public gathering, where he will watch a vibrant Bihu program performed by over ten thousand performers/Bihu dancers. During the program, the Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone and dedicate various development projects to the nation, including the commissioning of a 500 TPD Menthol Plant in Namrup, the laying of the foundation stone of a bridge on the Brahmaputra River connecting Palashbari and Sualkuchi, the laying of the foundation stone for the beautification of Rang Ghar in Sivasagar, and the dedication of five railway projects to the nation.

The opening of AIIMS Guwahati would be a watershed moment for the state of Assam and the broader North-East area. This also demonstrates the Prime Minister’s commitment to improving health infrastructure across the country. The Prime Minister also lay the foundation stone for this hospital in May 2017. AIIMS Guwahati, built at a cost of more than Rs. 1120 crores, is a state-of-the-art hospital with a capacity of 750 beds, including 30 AYUSH beds. Every year, this hospital will have a capacity of 100 MBBS students. The hospital will offer world-class health care to the inhabitants of the North East.

The Prime Minister will also dedicate three medical colleges to the nation: Nalbari Medical College in Nalbari, Nagaon Medical College in Nagaon, and Kokrajhar Medical College in Kokrajhar, which were built at a cost of around Rs. 615 crore, Rs. 600 crore, and Rs. 535 crore, respectively. Each medical college is connected to a 500-bed teaching hospital with OPD/IPD services such as emergency services, ICU facilities, OT and diagnostic facilities, and so on. Each Medical College will have a capacity of 100 MBBS students every year.
