This year, Pratiksha Rani Borgohain of Guwahati was crowned Bihu Samragi 2023, followed by Moran’s Bonyani Gogoi as Bihu Rani 2023 and Lakhimpur’s Ananya Phukan as Bihu Kuwari 2023.
The competition also included the ‘best dhulia’ award, which went to Dulumoni Borah, and the ‘best pepa badok’ award, which went to Debojit Tamuli.
The Latasil Bihu Sanmilani took Bihu from the pitch to the stage in 1952, becoming the state’s oldest Bihu committee to carry on the tradition of celebrating Bihu in magnificent style.
Rongali Bihu, which is normally celebrated in an open field, was first celebrated on Latasil playground in 131 by the Ekota Sabha, a socio-cultural organisation founded in 1905 by a few teenagers from Uzan Bazar, Guwahati.
Assam’s Bihu dance, performed by 11,304 dancers at the Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati on Thursday, was inducted into the Guinness World Records.
Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made the news while watching the performance with his cabinet colleagues, government officials, and official adjudicator of the Guinness World Records Rishi Nath, who declared the number to beat for the “largest Bihu dance” was 500.
