Assam:  A man committed suicide in Assam’s Goalpara district after allegedly being blackmailed by two people over an objectionable video of his that they had recorded. Before taking such drastic measures, the victim made a video in which he demanded justice from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The tragic incident has come to light in Baguan, Goalpara. According to reports, the victim, Azizul Haque, had been blackmailed for some time by a former Nalanga Gaon Panchayat president and the husband of a regional councillor of the Panchayat in Goalpara over an objectionable video of his.

Haque, a resident of Goalpara’s Kamandanga village, had an extramarital relationship. The two accused had recorded an objectionable video of him in a vulnerable position with the woman. The video was then used to extract large sums of money from the victim.

The victim chose to commit suicide because he was trapped and had nowhere else to go. But first, he made a video in which he explained the entire situation and requested the chief minister’s intervention.

“Respected Assam CM, I wanted to narrate something to you,” the victim who died later is heard saying in the video. Sir, Dilowara Begum, Nalanga Panchayat, Goalpara, is blackmailing me. She made a derogatory video and extorted Rs 25 lakhs from me. Gulam Maula, a councillor, is also involved. I sold everything to pay them off, but they still demanded more. My wife currently holds a small NRLM post in Goalpara, which they now desire.”

Azizul Haque allegedly committed suicide shortly after filming the video. Meanwhile, a local in Goalpara with knowledge of the incident stated, “Two people, a man and a woman, are involved in the incident. Dilowara Begum is the ex-President of Nalanga Gaon Panchayat, Goalpara, and Gulam Maula, the husband of the current councillor. Some of us received the video at 3 a.m. That is something I cannot put into words. To me, he was like a younger brother. I also assisted him in repaying his blackmailers by selling three bighas of my land.”
