Following the infamous ragging incidents in Dibrugarh and Jorhat, a new case of ragging has emerged from Silchar, where the authority has rusticated as many as 14 students from the hostel.
This comes after a few first-year dental students filed a complaint against some seniors, alleging that they were causing mental and physical harassment and that their academic performance at the college had suffered as a result.

Meanwhile, Manjula Das, the principal of the dental college, stated that the issue was brought to the attention of the anti-ragging committee, which conducted an investigation and found the accused students guilty, after which disciplinary action was taken and the students were barred from staying at the hostel.
A first-semester student at Jagannath Baruah College in Jorhat, on the other hand, accused his seniors of ragging, forcing him to leave his hostel (Syed Abdul Malik) and seek private accommodation.
Pranabjyoti Chetia, a student from the Lakhimpur district, has been identified as the victim.
Based on his concerns, the principal filed an FIR at the Jorhat Sadar Police Station against nine students from Jagannath Baruah College in Jorhat who were accused of ragging.

According to reports, the student allegedly had a mental breakdown after being victimised and did not eat for two days.
The victim told the media, “It was very difficult for me to stay at the hostel, even though I withdrew my complaint, I urged the authority to take action, but no action was taken at that point in time.”
The committee, along with officers from the district administration, conducted their own investigation and found the accused students guilty.
The college administration then took disciplinary action, and the accused students were barred from staying at the hostel.
They were, however, permitted to continue their studies.
