Assam Parota Entrepreneur: Diganta Das of Gohpur in the former Biswanath district is now an indigenous paratha maker in northern Assam and has carved a niche in the north Assam food packaging industry. Diganta, the sole breadwinner for his parents and family, moved to Bengaluru in 2012 in search of work.

According to a twitter thread shared by a Twitter user, it said “Diganta Das, a manual labourer in the South Indian Pkg food industry, returned home during Covid and dared to open small packaged Parota making units in Biswanath Chariali and Lakhimpur, churning out an average of 1200 packets daily at each centre and capturing market from Tezpur to Tinsukia.”

On the other hand, During the pandemic, he established small packaged paratha or paratha-making units in Lakhimpur and Biswanath Chariali in Assam. He averaged 1200 packages per day and controlled the market from Tezpur to Tinsukia.

Diganta, the sole breadwinner for his parents and family, moved to Bengaluru in 2012 in search of work. Meanwhile, Suriya Thapa, a young man from Tinsukia, joined hands with Diganta there after working as a hotel labourer, painter, and so on. Then Diganth learned about a paratha manufacturing factory in Bengaluru, and the two were hired as workers there.

They are producing best quality Parota with great packaging with two other partners, and. Technology and machinery from South India, capturing a market not used to half-made Parota. Each unit employs between 10 and 12 people.

 

Diganta found it difficult to earn a living at home due to a lack of capital to do something. He eventually contacted Faizul Haque, an entrepreneur from Udalguri who currently holds three paratha factories. Faizul came to Diganta’s house and suggested that he establish a factory in Biswanath Chariali. Diganta started a paratha making factory six months ago in Panibharal, with a brand name of ‘Daily Fresh Foods,’ which became very popular in a short period of time.

The parathas are now sold in a wide range of locations, including Tezpur, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Silapathar, Dhemaji Lakhimpur, and others. Diganta sells 1,400 packets per day, with a packet of 5 parathas costing Rs 60 and a packet of 10 parathas costing Rs 100.
