Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated Chaygaon’s largest-ever cold storage facility on Tuesday. The facility was built at a cost of Rs 24.75 crores by the state government.
The cold storage facility will have a capacity of 5,000 MT. The Assam Chief Minister also dedicated a fruit processing centre in Panery. The CM praised Bhogali Jalpan owner Ajit Sarma Baruah and his wife Anjali Sarma Baruah for stepping forward to establish the centre in Panery for Rs 2.89 crore. Notably, the state government subsidised the centre by 50%.

The Assam Chief Minister also emphasised the importance of planting high-value trees such as sal, agar, and teak at home in order to reap economic benefits. The town is located on National Highway 17 and is serviced by buses and other modes of transportation to nearby cities and towns. Dhobargaon also has a railway station. Chaygaon is only 25 kilometres from the international airport.
