Assam Cabinet: On December 19, several significant decisions were made during the weekly Assam Cabinet meeting. These included decisions to develop a new township in Jagiroad, enhance EoDB indices, give tourism industry status, repeal 9 Acts, enhance working conditions, offer social security to motor transport workers, among other things. The Chief Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, presided over the Cabinet meeting.

The industrial policy’s thrust areas will also include a large number of new tourism-related businesses, such as heritage hotels, bungalows, campgrounds, restaurants, amusement parks, ropeways, museums, tour operator services, adventure parks, and water sports facilities.

This will give the state of Assam’s tourism sector the proper impetus for growth by entitling the units in the industry and the sector as a whole to the benefits provided by the Investment and Industrial Policy of Assam.
Assam has enormous potential to develop into a tourist hub for both domestic and foreign visitors, according to Tourism Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah, who was addressing the media. Assam can also become a significant contributor to the state’s GDP. The industry status given to the tourism sector will cause a paradigm shift in the development of the state’s tourism-based economy.

The minister supported his position by stating that the tourism industry will receive a significant amount of private investments as a result of the new status it has received, which enables incentives, subsidies, reimbursements, and other benefits for investors in accordance with industry policy. Ultimately, these investments will result in the creation of new employment opportunities. He also mentioned how Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) can be used to develop infrastructure, which helps a region grow as a whole.

It is noteworthy that the policy aims to promote sustainable, environmentally friendly investment through capital formation and the generation of profitable jobs.
