Assam: According to a report, the education ministry’s performance grading index (PGI) has ranked Assam and Tripura at Level 4, the best among the northeastern states, while Arunachal Pradesh is at the bottom of the grading system, which is a unique index for comprehensive analysis of the school education system.

The PGI is a one-of-a-kind index for an in-depth examination of the school education system.

Arunachal Pradesh has been ranked at Level 7, while Manipur, Meghalaya, and Nagaland have been ranked at Level 6.

 


Mizoram, along with five other states in the country, is ranked at Level 5.

The performance grading index (PGI) is comprised of 70 indicators divided into two categories with five domains. The scores are the sum of five educational attainment domains: Access, Learning Outcomes, Equity, Governance Process, and Infrastructure and Facilities.

 

Punjab once again tops India in school education as per a performance Grading Index (PGI) released by Union Govt. Mizoram is classified as Level 5 (scores: 751-800), along with five other states, while three other states in the region, Manipur, Meghalaya, and Nagaland, are classified as Level 6 (701-750), along with four other states, including Uttarakhand. Arunachal Pradesh is ranked last, at Level 7. (score: 651 – 700).

The Indian Education System is one of the largest in the world with about 14.9 lakh schools, 95 lakh teachers, and nearly 26.5 crore students from varied socio-economic backgrounds. DoSE&L devised PGI for States/UTs to provide insights and data driven mechanism on the performance and achievements of on the success of school education across all States/UTs. The prime objective of PGI is to promote evidence-based policy making and highlight course correction to ensure quality education for all. So far, DoSE&L has released PGI report for the year 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2019-20. The present report is for the year 2020-21.
